Second Round. Petone proved too good for Kaponga B, whom they defeated by 11 points to nil. Kaponga A beat Hawera by G points to 3. High School, who showed improved form, beat Kaponga Hockey after a fast and open game, by 13 points to 3. The Semi-Final. Petone beat Kaponga A by 9 to nil. From the outset Kaponga attacked, Dymock and Malone being prominent. H. E. Nicholls set up a counter-attack, and after Corner had i been checked by Scott, the ball came over on the other wing to Thomas, who scored. Scott and Malone were doing some great work, but Petone defended well, and a fast follow up by Hammersley was forced just in time by Thomas. Kaponga kept up the pressure, when suddenly Hamilton intercepted and raced down the field, scoring a good try. Kaponga attacked again, but the visitors were too nippy, and a good dribbling rush headed by Wylie ended in Hamilton again scoring. Mr. A. H. Guy was reieree. Tte Final. Petone beat New Plymouth High School by 8 points to 3 after a great match. The school boys played up well to their doughty opponents and sternly contested every inch of the way, their clean, open play earning the plaudits of the crowd. The game was very fast, both sides throwing the ball about in an exhilarating style, whilst the tackling was good. School appeared rather nervous on opening, but soon settled down, and after the first minute or two quite held their own. Good line kicks by Alexander and Foden put school in an attacking position, but Nicholls brothers relieved, and then, smartly getting the ball over to Thomas, th at t speedy winger beat Alexander and scored. The spell ended: Petone 3, School 0. School attacked hotly on resuming and kept Petone busily defending. Foden essayed a pot, which was too low. School kept going and were within an aee of scoring on two or three occasions, but Petone tackled strongly. Then Nicholls marked, and in the resultant play the ball went out to Thomas, wtq again outpaced the opposition. M. Nicholls goaled. School attacked again, and a fine passing move saw Foden score between the posts. His shot at goal hit the bar. Mr. W. A. Guy refereed.
