NEW PLYMOUTH TRAMWAYS.

A HEALTHY POSITION. The New Plymouth electric tramways are a very remunerative investment, as the following figures, furnished by the general manager to last meeting of the council, show (shillings and pence omitted):

Reserve and renewal did not figure in 1921, so that the improvement in the position in the past year has actually been £2143, a very creditable showing. Even if they paid expenses the tramways would be well worth while, for they are a potent influence in the progress of the town.

SOLDIERS’ GRAVES.

NEW PLYMOUTH REMEMBERS. A particular part of the general commemoration of Anzac Day in New Plymouth yesterday was carried out by the members of the Victoria League, who attended to the graves of soldiers buried in the cemetery. The work was carried out under the supervision of the president (Mrs. Burgess), over ninety wreaths of poppies, laurels and general floral designs being placed on the returned soldiers’ plot. Individual graves of soldiers in other parts of the cemetery also received attention, as did the burial places of nurses who died during the epidemic, and who had been comrades of the League members in various patriotic work. Poppy wreaths were received from the Central and Fitzroy Schools, and a large number were made under the direction of Miss Park, of the Girls’ High School. After the Anzac service at Pukekura Park Sergeant-Major Roper and a large party of returned soldiers visited the last resting place of their comrades. In the afternoon crowds of people also visited Te Henui Cemetery.
