Toko also wrote stating that Thursday was unsuitable owing to the train arrangements not fitting in. The secretary got into communication with Eltham, who stated that they would prefer to play their juniors on Saturday in the southern division and the fourth grade on Thursday. It was decided to agree to the alteration, and Eltham juniors will take up the bye in the southern division. In the. central division, the clubs drawn against Eltham in the junior competition will automatically have a bye. It was resolved to inform the Toko Club that the union regretted that it was impossible to aceede to their request. SCHOOL MATCHES.
As Stratford District High School have withdrawn their third grade team and entered an additional team in the fourth grade, it will be necessary for these two grades to be re-drawn. In connection with the proposal to establish a junior secondary schools’ competition, Mr. Moyes stated thab there were only two teams entered so far, viz., Stratford District High School and New Plymouth High School. Hawera Technical Schoo? would enter a team if the matches were played during the week. Tariki wrote complaining of 'the shape of the Toko ground. Mr. Harkness stated that the ground was a good one, but was laid out on an angle. Nothing can be done to . alter this, and it was resolved to reply accordingly. The Rahotu Football Club wrote asking that they should be allowed to retain their junior gates. They pointed out that from their geographical position their travelling expenses were very heavy, and as they had. no senior team they did not receive any proportion of their travelling expenses back from the union.—The union decided that it is unable to vary its rules, but will reconsider the position at the end o>f the season.
The Egmont A. and P. Association wrote accepting the offer of 10 per cent, on gross gate receipts for the use of the show grounds for all matches. THE AMENDED RULE. The Taranaki Referees’ Association asked the union to apply for permission to play the amended rule regarding kicking into touch. The chairman stated that it was a question that would have to be decided at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union. Permission had been granted the New Zealand Union by the English Rugby Union to allow the rule to be played in the Auckland province. All the Auckland unions and Hawke’s Bay would favour the rule. Members generally expressed the opinion that the playing of this rule had greatly improved the game when it was tried in Taranaki last year, and it was resolved that the delegates should support the playing of the amended rule regarding kicking into touch. The Referees’ Association also asked the union to define its powers in regard to the control of players before and after taking the field. —It was resolved to inform the Referees’ Association that the union has no ruling on the matter, but will ascertain from the New Zealand Rugby Union as to whether there is any such ruling. Messrs. L. G. Beamish, the chairman and the secretary were appointed an executive. Selectors were appointed as follows: Messrs. W. A. Guy (south), A. L. Humphries (north), and D. J. Malone.
