ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT.

PAST MONTH’S OPERATIONS. In his report to the council for the month of March the electrical engineer (Mr. R. H. Bartley) states: During the month 24 applications for the supply have been received; nine additions have been made to existing installations; and 59 lighting consumers have been connected to the mains. For the council’s information I give some particulars concerning applications registered, etc. The information is really in answer to a question at the last council meeting. (1) The applications on the register and not connected on June 20, 1921 (the date of the council’s resolution to cease connections) was 128. (2) The applications registered since June 20, 1921, to March 31, 1922, are 343. (3) The connections made since June 20, 1921, to March 31, 1922, are 250. (4) The applications not connected up to March 31, 1922, are 221. A large majority of these applications not connected must remain so until additional power is available, they being principally for heating and cooking. There are also a number of cases where power is required, the applications having been withdrawn on account of the supply not being available. A start has been made at the power house preparing to put in the foundations for the new turbine; also the erection of motor generator at distribution station is almost completed, and should be running within one week’s time. Generally speaking, the whole of the pi'nt at the power and distribution stations is operating satisfactorily, and the repairs and maintenance are quite normal.
