RHODESIA’S FUTURE.
CONFERENCE CLOSED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Capetown, Aprikl 19. Negotiations have been opened between the Union Government and representatives of the Chartered Company with a view to ascertaining the terms upon which the former could acquire the land, railway and mineral rights in Rhodesia. An official communique states that the conference has closed. The Union Government explained that it desired to come to a provisional agreement with the company before finally formulating the terms of incorporation, and as soon as the negotiations were complete the terms would be communicated to the High Commissioner in time for a referendum. The general opinion among the delegates is that the prospects of union are not improved bv the conference. .Rhodesia would probably prefer trying responsible government first.
