UNION DICTATION
A SHIPPING DISPUTE. TEST OF STRENGTH. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received April 18, 11.15 p.m. Melbourne, April 18. Mr. Larkin, manager of the Commonwealth Shipping Line in London, has cabled that Lord Inchcape has given an assurance that in the event of the Hobson's Bay being held up through the action of the Australian maritime unions the vessels of the Inchcape group of lines trading on the .Australian coast will be withdrawn until the Government vessel is fully manned. The action taken by the Commonwealth Ship-owners’ Association, who, in view of the pending struggle against union dictation, have already given a number of masters and officers a month’s notice, indicates that private owners will stand by the Government when the crisis comes to a head, which is expected on the vessel’s arrival in Sydney next week.—-Aus.-N.Z.
