POSITION IN SIBERIA.
RUPTURE OF NEGOTIATIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received April 18, 5.5 p.m. Tokio, April 17. A rupture in the negotiations with Chita followed the Chita delegates taking the stand that any agreement signed must state explicitly when Japanese troops will evacuate Siberia, while the Japanese contended that this was a matter for subsequent arrangement, following the signing of a general agreement. The Japanese Foreign Office explains that Japan undertook to name a definite date for evacuation of Siberia, and placed the matter in the hands of military experts to call an immediate conference, but Chita made additional propoqah, upsetting the fundamental agreement already reached regarding protection of the lives and property of foreign residents, and the adoption of an open-door policy. Japan ordered its delegates to withdraw from the conference if Chita persisted in these de-mands.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
