MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
NEW PLYMOUTH CASES. There was a short sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at. New Plymouth on Thursday, when Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M., dealt with two prosecutionsbrought by the police and some undefended civil cases. William Fitzgerald pleaded guilty to the charge brought by the police of driving a motor car along Devon Street past the intersection of Gover Street at a greater* speed than 8 miles per hour. He was fined £1 and costs 7s. For an offence under the Social Hygiene Act of 1917, Olive Doris James, a young woman of 19 years, was convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following cases: —Edwin Whittle v. Gordon Sal way, £27 4s 3d (costs £4 8s) ; T. C. List v. G. E. Clout, £6 10s (costs £1 10s fid) ; J. P. Weale v H. A. Jenkins, £9 5s 6d (costs £1 8s fid) ; Joseph Crockett v. John Davidson, £23 2s fid (costs £3 Is); Samuel Whitehead v. Cecil Clarke,, £3 10s (costs £1 5s fid) ; Roy and Nicholson v. J. H. Lowe, £2 9s (costs £1 Is). On a judgment summons R. E. Walsh was ordered to pay J- B Rev £l5 10s 3d forthwith, in default fifteen days’imprisonment, warrant to be suspended until 28 davs after service of the order.
