EASTER HOLIDAYS.

TARANAKI FIXTURES. The holidays in Taranaki at Easter time are to be taken up with many attractions, most of which are out-of-doors, and their success will depend largely on weather conditions. To-morrow (Good Friday) will be observed practically as a Sunday. The New Plymouth tramways will run a Sunday timetable with extras when required. At Ngaere Gardens the Stratford Musical Society and orchestra will give a programme of sacred, music. Tn New Plymouth a benefit programme in aid of the Y.W.-C.A. will be screened at both picture theatres.

A large number of golfers are interested in the opening of the Taranaki tournament at the New Plymouth Club’s links at Waiwakaiho on Saturday. Athletics claim attention at Patea and. Okato, where sports meetings are to be held, and at ’Vogeltown the Huatoki Domain Board are conducting a picnic. There are many out-door fixtures on Monday. The Waimate Trotting Club’s meeting on the Hawera racecourse is a popular event and will no doubt draw a large crowd. In New Plymouth the golf tournament continues ;»nd the Kawaroa Society will hold their annual picnic, for which a big programme of amusements has been drawn up. At Waitara a sports meeting will be run under the Returned Soldiers’ and Civilians’ Club, and an athletic meeting and picnic is to be held at Ratapiko. Attractions for picnickers will also be found at Ngaere Gardens. The tramways timetable will include specials on ; Saturday and Monday where necessary. Retailers’ shops will be closed tomorrow and Monday, while different trades have a varying practice as regards the hours on Saturday: Drapers and clothiers, whose premises closed for the half-holiday yesterday, will observe the late night on Saturday. Other business firms keep their premises open to-night and close at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday. The butchers’ shops will be open all day Saturday.
