MAINDY LODGE ARRIVES.
HEAVY WEATHER PASSAGE. After a heavy weather passage of seven days from Newcastle, Australia, the Maindy Lodge (2686 tons) was berthed at New Plymouth at 5.30 last evening. The vessel has a coal cargo of 3300 tons for the Government railways. The Maindy Lodge was close in shore early yesterday morning, but could not see the coast-line owing to the misty conditions prevailing at sea, so it was decided to stand off. The vessel eventually arrived in the stream at 4.30 p.m. yesterday and, after the health inspection had been carried out and pratique granted, the vessel was brought alongside the wharf. Discharging operations will be commenced at 8 o’clock this morning, but to-morrows being Good Friday, work will be suspended. Unloading will ba continued on Saturday. It is expected the vessel will be in port anti] Saturday week, April 22, when she will return to Newcastle. The vessel’s draught on entering port was 19ft forward and 18ft 3in aft.
