Taxing live stock. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Melbourne, April 12. The Federal Government has decided ■on a basis for valuing live stock for taxation purposes as follows: The standard value applicable to all calves born or purchased and still in the possession of the owner at the end of the accounting period will be fixed at onethird of the existing standard values. REDUCED FREIGHTS. Sydney, April 12. Overseas shipowners have decided to reduce freights a farthing per lb on frozen beef exported by December -31. The Commonwealth Line is also willing to reduce the freight on tallow to the United Kingdom from 150 s to 130 s per ton. THE LIVING WAGE. Adelaide, April 12. The Board of Industry has reduced the living wage from 3s 3d per day to 128 Hd.
