BISHOP LISTON’S SPEECH.
(To the Editor.) ■Sir,—Quite a flood of letters have appeared in the correspondence column of the . News about Bishop Liston’s speech at Auckland recently. Some of the writers are a sample of the old Taranaki-ites with their “no Irish need apply,” to come to TaranakL The Irish are here, and don’t mind being molested by the letters appearing in correspondence by the narrow-minded people of this province. If they got a little of what poor Pat gave their forefathers in the early days of Taranaki they would have something to remember. I am not going to parley too long on the old, old, story, as they say, but what I suggest is that the numerous correspondents meet and settle their arguments by the fist. If a similar method had been applied to Ireland Home Rule would have been carried many years ago.—I am, etc., Kaimata, April 6.
