BURGLARS IN HOTEL BAR.
CASH REGISTER REMOVED. Some time after half-past ten o’clock on Wednesday night last a cash register, containing about £5 10s in money, together with nine bottles of spirits, was stolen from the bar of the Commercial Hotel, Palmerston North. At about 10.30 p.m. the licensee went into the bar through a door leading out of the parlor, the door in the corridor being locked for the night. When he passed through the parlor he noticed two men sitting there. On returning from the bar the licensee asked them if they were boarders, and they replied in the affirmative, stating they had booked up for the night. In the morning they were not on the premises, and it was found that one of the two cash registers in the bar was missing. The register had evidently been pushed across to a door opening on to a right-of-way’ leading out into a back alley. Here it was found unlocked with the conten Missing. The police are also investigating a burglary which occurred during the last week-end at the Anzac Club. Some intruders gained access to the secretary’s office and stole from a locked drawer in the desk a sum of £3O in cash and also a bank book. In another drawer £lB in money was left undisturbed. The missing cash was part of the Social Committee’s funds.
