AN ESCAPED PRISONER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, April 7. Plunkett, the one-armed man who broke prison and was at large for five months, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to escaping from custody and to burglaries. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
AN INTERVIEW DENIED. Auckland, April 7. Mr. Hall Skeleton, an Auckland lawyer, has returned by the Niagara. He denies having given an interview in reference to the Japanese menace. The cabled report did not represent his views, which were in accord with public opinion here. [Some weeks ago a New York Cable reported an alleged interview with Mr. Hall Skelton, in which he was reported as predicting, war amongst the Pacific Powers.] ODDFELLOW’S CONFERENCE. Christchurch, April 7. The Oddfellows’ Conference passed the following resolution: —“That discharged soldier candidates who have been gassed or suffered from shell-shock and concerning whom there is clear medical testimony that their war disabilities are not likely injuriously to affect their financial status in the society, may he admitted to membership if* such candidates have been approved by the management committee or by the district officers.” A resolution to appoint a propaganda officer was lost.
