ENTERTAINMENTS.

SCOUTS’ ENTERTAINMENT. ■ The large audience which attended the Empire Theatre last night made it quite clear that Mr. J. Hoskin (and those associated with him) in organising the entertainment in aid of the North Taranaki District Association Boy Scouts had achieved a great success. From the items given prettily by the tiny tots, Joyce Ericksen and Patty .Durdle, to those rendered by the more experienced artists, the enthusiasm never flagged. With a programme so uniformly successful it is difficult to particularise. The clever dancing of Miss Olive Ericksen ami Master G. Hoskin, with the comic acting of the latter, was greatly appreciated. Songs ’by Miss Keitha Loveridge. Mrs. Ferry, Messrs. Tunbridge and Brooker were enthusiastically encored, as were recitations by Miss Ina Can tell. Maida Jones, Olive, and Connie Erie’/sen for •their pianoforte duets and trios respectively received very hearty apI plause. Miss Jennie Rae’s Highland ‘dancing, with bagpipe accompaniment, played by Major Sinclair, of the New Plymouth Pipe Band, was enthusiasti- 1 cally received, as was the dainty ballet dancing of Miss Hazel George. The item wlit'ih aroused the greatest enthusiasm was the banjo playing of Mr. Allan E. Martin, who showed the. wonderful range, of that instrument in the hands of a master. A broken string prevented the completion of Mr. Martin’s third recall, but he promised to show the audience to-night how the. ‘banjo can be played in four or five, different ways. Mr. Kay’s cornet solo, the quaint Dutch Dance, and last, but not least, the work of the orchestra, under the control of Mrs. George, completed a most enjoy■able programme. I The entertainment, will be repeated this evening, and as the proceeds are. for ! a very worthy cause a large attendance |is hoped for. Those who patronise it JBsIJUEIU,
