ENGLISH LOCAL POLLS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, April 4. Labor was heavily defeated at the elections of the boards of guardians and district councils in tne provinces by the Conservatives and Liberals combining as an anti-waste party. In many cases not a single Laborite was returned, though the party contested all the seats. This is most noteworthy in the Notts coalfield, Southampton and Newbiggen, a mining centre in Northumberland. A similar combination of Progressives, Independents, Municipal Reformers and Anti-Labor candidates will fight the elections for 29 Soards of guardians in London on Wednesday.
