WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) April 4. After a long illness there passed away at her home, at Tikorangi, Miss Jupp. The North Taranaki Troop of the Legion of Frontiersmen are having their annual re-union on Thursday next. A large number of visitors is anticipated. Our local medico, Dr. Allison, is away on holiday, during which, it is stated, he will take unto himself a wife. Dr. Campbell is acting as locum tenens during his absenceThe unemployment position has started to make itself felt in the district. Messrs. Borthwick and Sons, who employ a large number of hands, are slackening off earlier this year than usual. About, thirty odd hands were put off last week, and it looks as if the season is just about on the close. HUNT CLUB MEETING. The North Taranaki Hunt Club held a meeting here last Thursday, Mr. B. H. Chaney occupying the chair. He said it was desirable to increase the club membership, and he believed that a good many could be got from this end of the district to go in for the sport. He believed that the club’s activities had been the means of improving the breed of the horse, and it behoved all members to own a good type of hack, so that the Hunt might be still more successful. On Mr. A- H. Halcombe’s suggestion, the property-owners of the district are to be seen, and permission obtained to hunt over their lands. A committee, consisting of Messrs, Skelton, Adlam, Parli and Edwin, were appointed to interview same. On Mr. Parli’s proposal it was decided to hold a hunt at Inglewood and Omata, and possibly in the Okato district. It was thought that probably more interest would be taken by taking in a wider area. The opening meet has been fixed for the 29th instant on Mr. Sampson’s property at Sentry Hill.
