ENGINEERS’ LOCK-OUT.
TROUBLE MAY SOON END.
PREMIER TAKES HAND. SUBSIDIARY UNIONS BREAK AWAY, I By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, April 4. The negotiators in connection with tlie engineering lock-out have accepted the invitation to confer with Mr. Lloyd George. Received April G, 9.20 p.m. London, April 5. Mr. Lloyd George and Dr. T. J. Macnamara to-day had a series of conferences aiming at ending the engineering and shipbuilding disputes to-night. The general workers and foundry workers, the largest section affected outside the amalgamated engineers, informed the engineers that they were willing to accept the employers’ latest conditions for withdrawal of the lockout notices as a fair basis for direct negotiations. The breakaway of forty-seven unions from the amalgamated engineers is tne sequel to the conferences with Mr. Lloyd George. The position is that representatives of these unions immediately resume conference with the employers, who are considering the cancellation of the lock-out notices, leaving the amalgamated engineers to fight alone. The engineers protested vigorously against the action of the other unions.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
