Lieutenant-General Sir A. J. Godiey, Military Secretary to the Secretary of State for War, ' has been appointed General Officer Commanding-in-Chief British Army of the Rhine (writes The Post’s London correspondent under date February 17). Commenting on this appointment, the Morning Post remarks that he did good work in the Dardanelles, Egypt, and in France, was repeatedly “mentioned,” and received the K.C.8., as well as promotion to Lieuten-ant-General. He also gave a good account of himself in the South African War in 1899-1901. His successor at the War Office is Lieutenant-General Sir W. E. Peyton, who was for two years Military Secretary at general headquarters in France during the war. General Godley succeeds on the Rhine LieutenantGeneral Sir T. L. N. Morland, who is coming to England to be General Officer Commanding-in-Chief at Aldershot. It is noted as a coincidence that all three officers have been on the Rhine, as Sir A. J. Godiey commanded the 4th Corps, Rhine Army, in 1919, and Sir W. E. Peyton the cavalry division in the same year.
