NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB'S CARNIVAL. FINAL OF THE SEASON. - After a series of successful swimining carnivals, held mostly in the evenings, the New Plymouth Amateur Swimming CTlub’s final carnival took place at the municipal baths on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance of the public, the takings amounting to about £ll. An attractive programme of events had been arranged, and some good, swimmrng was witnessed. Results:— Youths’ 50 yards handicap.—C. Collins (2sec) 1, W. Penmaji (6sec) 2, R. Earley (7sec) 3. Time, 40sec. Six competitors. Learners’ race (girls) 25 yards.—J. Graham 1. D. Richards 2. Time, 2*5960. Four competitors. Learners’ race (boys) 25 yards.—-First heat: C. Simpson 1, R. Payton 2. Time, 23sec. Three started. Second heat: K. Parkin 1, Goodacre 2. Time, 23 3-ssec. Three competitors. Final: Simpson 1, Parkin 2, Goodacre 3. Time, 23sec.
33 1-3 yards inter-club (open) handicap.—First heat: R. Morrison (scV) 1, K. Stohr (scr) 2, G. Gay ton (6sec) 3. Time, 29 2-ssec. Five started, becond heat: E. Coleman (leec) 1. Miss Stone (7sec) 2, R. Bayley (2sec) 3. Time, 25 4-ssec. Four started. Final: Coleman 1, Miss Stone 2, Bayley 3. Time, 28 4-ssec.
50 yards club handicap (Mr. V. Dalgleish’s points prize).—l. McHardy (scr) 1, K. Taylor (3sec) 2, R. Morrison (2 sec) 3. The only starters. Time, 312 4-ssec. Won by a touch. The winner of this prize was the competitor who secured the most points in the 200, 100 and 50 yards handicap races, all of which have now been decided. McHardy and Taylor have tied with 10 points each, and will swim off later to decide "the winner. Secondary school boys’ handicap (50 yards).—First heat: K. Taylor (2secj 1, Hawkins (ssec) 2, Curtis (fifiec) 3. Time, 39sec. The best race of the day, the first four men finishing almost in line with a touch separating each of them. Five started. Second heat: C. Tait (6sec) 1, T. Foden (scr) 2, C. Collins (2see) 3. Four starters. Tait swam strongly throughout and won easily. Time, 35sec. Final: Taylor 1,. Hawkins 2, Tait 3. Time, 36sec. 220 yards inter-club breaststroke handicap (Dalgleish Cup, valued £lO 10s and medal valued £2 2s, cup to be held for one year). —T. Foden (15see) 1, A. Blennerhassett (scr) 2, R. Howell (45 sec) 3. All started. Time, 4min. 21 2-5 sec. t Won by several yards. 100 yards club championship (M r . J. Bennett’s medal). —I. McHardy l. : K» Taylor 2. Three started. Time, 75sec. Won by three yards. Ribbon dive handicap.—D. Sykes (scr) 1. Five competitors. The winner cleared 7 feet. Weston shield relay race (girls), 33 1-3 yards each competitor.—West End (T. Stone, J. Stone, P. Berridge and M. Jeffries) 1, Fitzroy 2. All startea. Time, 2min. 34sec. One of the Fitzroy swimmers got cramp, but some of the leeway was made up. West End winning with several yards to spare. McHardy shield relay race (boys), 33 1-3' yards* each competitor.—West Er/d (Gayton, Thompson, Petty, Haughey) 1* Central (Knight, Boyle, Black, Fitldft) 2. Also swam: High School, Praparfctory and Fitzroy. Won easily. Timfe, Imin. 49sec.
Men’s inter-club diving.—R* Wilson (321 points) 1, A. Petty and W. Penman (30 points) dead heat 2. Gray cup inter-club relay race, each competitor to swim 33 1-3 yards.—Old Boys (Blennerhassett, McHardy, Kyngdon, Morrison) 1, Boys’ High School (Rickard, Taylor, Collins-, Foden) 2, New Plymouth 3. A teawr of “veterans” consisting of Messrfir. Jago, Standish, MeAllum and -Brown also competed and finished close behind the placed teams. Time, 79sec.
At the Conclusion of the programme Mr. Blennerhassett gave an interesting exhibition of fancy diving.
