800 YARDS RECORD LOWERED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 31. The ladies’ swimming record for 800 yards was lowered by Miss Violet Walrond at the Waitemata Swimming Club’s gala in the tepid baths. The previous Dominion ladies’ record was held by Miss Queenie Nuttall, of Na* pier. Miss Walrond had to do better than 15min. 36 l-ssec., and her attempt was successful. She swam the distance in 14min. 28 4-ssec., a reduction of Imin. 7 2-ssee. unpaced.
