Orders for papers may also be left with him. MOTOR ACCIDENTS. March 31. A peculiar motor accident happened at Toko yesterday. The motor-car used on the motion picture circuit, with the picture projector mounted on board, was proceeding down the hill near Toko when, on reaching the bend at the foot of the hill, both near wheels collapsed, every spoke being smashed. The car did not overturn, and apparently no further damage was done. A somewhat similar accident occurred lin Fenton Street, when a car with two passengers was going round a corner. A wheel came off the axle, and the body of the car struck the road heavily, but little damage was done. THE £lOOO DRIVE. The sales of tickets for prizes in the £lOOO drive in aid of the Stratford Technical High School grounds fund are now practically completed, only a few tickets remaining in hand to-day. The retailers expect a busy day to-morrow (Saturday), when the ipany thousands of prizes will be tention is to distribute the ordinary prizes distributed to the ticket holders. The infrom motor lorries in Broadway, the specials being given out from the old Union Bank buildings. THE POHOKURA SADDLE. Settlers of Strathmore, Te Wera and Pohokura, as well as all those who have occasion to use the main road between Stratford and the Ohura, qpill be pleased to learn that there is every probability of the Strathmore Saddle being metalled almost immediately. This gap has always been a bar to road communication, rendering motoring in the winter and spring time a matter of difficulty, and at times an impossibility. The Stratford County Council has been interesting itself in the matter for some time, and last session a grant was placed on the estimates as a subsidy to an amount raised by the settlers for the work. The council has been anxious to obtain the money so as to enable the work to be pushed on with, and Mr. R. Masters, M.P., who has been in communication with the Minister of Public Works, has now received advice that the Minister is agreeable to the expenditure of the £6OO provided on the estimates. Given fine weather, there is reasonable prospect of the work being carried out before winter.
GENERAL. There were 22 births, 7 marriages and 5 deaths in Stratford during the month of March. Fro the corresponding month of last year the figures were 21, 8 and 7 respeetivety. B A LL B a wel , known member of the legal firm of Halliwell, Spratt, Thomson and Moss, is severing his connection with the firm, with the intention of commencing practice in New Plymouth on his own account. Taranaki Anniversary Day in Stratford to-day was marked only by a bank holiaay and the flying of a flag from the Post Office. No building permits were issued by the Stratford Borough Council during the month of March. ' Five permits for buildings of a total value of £3390 were issued in March of last year.
