VON LUCKNER’S CAPTORS.
PRESENTATION FROM LLOYD’S. In recognition of his gallant conduct on the occasion of the capture of the captain and some of the crew of the German raider Seeadler. Inspector A. E. S. Howard, of the Fiji Constabulary, was presented in London early in February with Lloyd’s Silver Medal -for Meritorious Services and a cheque for £lOO. Sub-Inspector H. C. Hills, of the Fiji Constabulary, who assisted In the capture, is also to be the recipient of similar gifts from Lloyd’s. The two officers, with a sergeant and five Fijian constables in the unarmed steamer Amra, captured Count von Luckner, another officer, and four seamen of the See?dler at Wakaya Island. Putting up a ‘‘big bluff,” Inspector Howard boarded their launch, while Sub-Inspector Hills called on the crew to surrender.
Tn spite of the fact that the police party were armed only with two revolvers, while the crew of the launch were well supplied with arms, including bombs, they surrendered and handed over their weapons.
