THE SEAMEN'S DISPUTE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, March 31. In the seamen’s dispute before the Conciliation Council to-day it was stated that the case really affected the; whole Dominion.
Mr. Smith, opening for the shipowners, said it was owing to the present unsatisfactory times that they had to ask for a modification in wages and conditions. The ship-owners* proposal* were based on the agreement made in 1917, but did not seek to interfere with the principle of the eight-hour day.
