TARANAKI RUGBY UNION.
MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the management conumt* tee of the Taranaki Rugby Union was held at Stratford last night, when there were present: Messrs. Jas. McLeod (r urman). A. L. Humphries, L. G. Beamisn, R* G. Harkness, W. F. Fearon, A. J. Papps, W. H. Moyes, A. F. Neilson, W. A. Guy, J. Garcia and G. E. Jago (secretary). Mr. Amess, principal of the Stratford Technical High School, waited on the union and stated that he was making an attempt to make football compulsory at the school. They had four teams, two of which were entered in the present grades, but there were two teams who were composed of boys too small to play in those grades. He suggested a weight limit being imposed and allowing these boys.to play in the primary school competitions, or else to impose a weight limit in the primary schools so that some of the schools could enter teams in, say, a fifth grade. The members of the union were empathetic, but it was pointed out that there was the question of grounds and of travelling. New Plymouth High School, Technical College and Hawera Technical College were in the same position. It was,' however, recognised that the matches could be played in the morning. After discussion it was decided to fomt a secondary schools junior competition, with an age limit of sixteen, the matter of fixtures to be left with Mr. Moyes. Mr. P. Skoglund waited on the committee in connection with the Stratford Borough Council’s proposals to expend £5OOO on Victoria Park, so as to make it available for football and other sports. He suggested that the Taranaki Union might be able to borrow, say, £5OO from the New Tealand Union and take up that amount of debentures from the borough. With the debentures that might be taken up locally a start would be made with the levelling of the ground, grounds for two dub matches will be provided. Mr. Harkness stated that there was no question better gates would be taken if the games were played in the park than on the show ground. The committee recognised that the provision of two grounds would be a good thing, and on a written application bdng received from the borough the matter will be placed before the New Zealand Rugby Union. Messrs. J. McLeod and G. W. Slade were appointed delegates to the New Zealand Rugby Union, the latter being the resident delegate. The East Coast Rugby Union, representing five sub-unions, asked support to its application to become a separate district.— Left in the hands of the delegates. Mr. A. L. Moore (New Plymouth Tech* uical College) wrote pointing out that several of the boys in his school .had just turned eighteen or would be turning eighteen shortly, and so would not be eligible to play fourth grade. He asked whether some alteration could not be made so as to permit of these boys playing for thfcir school, as otherwise the school football Would suffer. After some discussion Mr. Moyes mo ed that in the case of schools boys up to lie age of nineteen be allowed to play in » fourth grade, subject to each indivic al player being submitted to the union. le pointed out that this did not affect lis school. This was seconded by Mr. Humph as and lost, and it was resolved that I tr. Moore be informed that the union reg Ats that it cannot see its way to alter ie rules in this case. & | The question of rent of grounds for le coming season was discussed, and it i as resolved to offer clubs 10 per cent, of is gate for the rent of the grounds; also 5 per cent, for management expenses.
