AWAKINO DISTRICT.
SETTLERS’ ASSOCIATION FORMED. A meeting of settlers was held in the Awakino Hall on Saturday evening, 25th inst., for the purpose of forming an association to promote and protect the interests of the district. This meeting was called as a result of the recent visit to the district of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce. Mr. W. D. Thomson presided over a good attendance. It was decided that an association be formed to be known as “The Awakino Settlers’ Association,” and that an effort be made to have every settler in the district enrolled as a member. Mr. W. D. Thomson was elected president and Mr. H. L. Northern hon. secretary, and representative to the Tar&naxi Chamber of Commerce. Several matt€fs of vital interest to the distrkft were discussed and immediate action is to be taken. The enthusiasm displayed augers well for the future of the district, and it is the intention of the officers to make the association a real live body.
