The inspector’s department at the New Plymouth borough office is at present experieiXng a rush of applications in connection with the registration of dogs, owners, no doubt, having in view the fact that the time for registration expires on Friday. A proposal to widen Devon Street West was embodied in a resolution carried by the New Plymouth (Borough Council last night. It was■ as follows: “That the necessary steps be taken to secure the consent of owners and others interested in the lands abutting on Devon Street West, and the streets leading therefrom, to the council’s cutting back the banks and filling in where necessary to secure the full width of the streets on the road level.” The motion was moved by the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wrlson), who said that the route was destined to be one of the main outlets of the borough, and if the property owners were alive to their own interests th© council would get the permission which was being sought.

The subject of better road communication with the hinterland of Taranaki was mentioned at last night’s meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council, when a resolution was passed supporting the action of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce in endeavoring to bring about the deeireu improvement. The Mayor (Mr. F. E. ’Wilson) said that while undoubtedly better roads would benefit the locality immediately concerned, it would also equally benefit western Taranaki, and no part more than the borough of New Plymouth. On his motion the following resolution was carried: “That this council cordially supports the resolution passed at the meeting of citizens convened by the Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, the 23rd inst., to secure better means of communication with eastern Taranaki, and desires to associate itself with the Chamber and other representatives in the action being taken for that purpose.
