INGLEWOOD WEANER FAIR. Our Inglewood correspondent states that this fair, held by Newton King, Ltd., was well attended, buyers from Hawke’s Bay and Wanganui being present. Unfortunately for I local breeders the meteorological conditions both on the day of sale, and for several days previously, were, to put it mildly, decidedly adverse, with the result that the stock offered were by no means at their best, so far as appearance was concerned. Though buyers had come from so far outside the district, competition was not as keen as vendors hoped, with the result, that, in some cases, local holders preferred to hold rather than sell at the prices offered. Not many sheep were yarded, but most of those presented found buyers. Store lambs at 8s 6d, culls at 5s and breeding ewes, of mixed ages at 14s fid. In cattle, of the weaners, Jersey heifers made from £2 5s to £3 ss, Frieslans (a very choice line) 365, mixed from 10s to 30s. Weaner steers, sold for 15s, heavier 19s. .Store cows went from 10s to 40s. Sound dairy cows due to calve in spring made £5 ss. Steers, after much battling made 25s to 28s for 18-months, 33s for 2%-years, £2 16s for 3’/6-years, and £3 7s 6d for older cattle. Bulls were ha'd to •*” and realised only from £2O tc £4O.
