Tallbw. —One thousand one hundred and eighty-eight casks were offered and 846 sold. Low qualities advanced 6d, but fine beef declined 6d. Mutton, medium 425, line 39s 6d; beef, medium 42s 3d, fine 39s 6d. In the wheat cargoes market there are more inquiries. Despite American weakness Australian are 'steadily held and not pressed for sale. Parcels closed with a better demand at 3d and Gd decline. LONDON WOOL SALES. London, March 22. At the wool sale there was a very moderate selection, but a good general competition for all sorts. Prices were very firm. The list for the June series closed on Marct l 16 with 42,000 free Australian, 36,000 free New Zealand, and 80,000 8.A.W.R.A., also 7900 Capes and Puntas. BRINSMEAD PIANO COMPANY. London, March 23. A liquidator -has been’ appointed for the Brinsmead Pianoforte Manufacturers’ Company, foamed in 1916 with a capital of £lOO,000 to acquire the business of the company formed in 1890. The failure Is attributed to losses in 1919-20, low output and subsequent labor troubles. After the assets Have been realised there will be £35,000 owing to second debenture holders,,, and £23,000 to unsecured creditors. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Heavy hides with substance unchanged, ordinary hides and heavy kips fully a halfpenny to three-farth-ings lower. PRICES FOR PIGS. At Newton King, Ltd.’s, haymarket j’esterday weaner pigs realised 6s to 7s, slips 10s to 12s 6d, stores 18s 6d to 20s. THE POULTRY MARKET. Messrs. Webster Bros, report the following prices: Hens Is 7d to 2s 9d; 'cockerels 2s to 3s, ducks 2s 6d. Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co. report that hens sold at from Is lid to 3s Id; pullets 3s fid to 7s 6d; cockerels Is to 2s 4d; ducks 2s lid to 3s 6d. HAMILTON MARKET. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, report:— At Hamilton on Tuesday, March 21, the yarding of all classes was , below the average in quantity. There was little/competition for beef, although it must he admitted that little of prime quality was penned. Steers made to £5 10s, fat cows and heifers from £2 10s to £3 Is. The bulk of the cow beef was passed in. Store cattle in general were extremely dull and a good proportion of the entry was not transferred. Offers up to £4 were made for 3% year steers, but without tempting buyers. Competition for sheep was steady and everything changed hands. Fat. lambs sold at 15s, good store woolly lambs to Ils Id,' shorn lambs 7s sd, Inferior 5s 4d. Pigs were again penned in fair numbers, but values were not quite up to the previous week. Bacoqers made to £3 13s, good porkers £2 8s to £2 15s, light porkers 38s to £2 2s, slips 18s to 255, weaners 6s to Us. BURNSIDE STOCK SALE. GOOD COMPETITION FOR SHEEP AND LAMBS. Dunedin, March 22. There were good supplies of sheep and lambs offered at the Burnside sales to-day. There was good competition and practically all disposals were at slightly enhanced values. Fat cattle were in over supply and competition was not very brisk. Fat Cattle.—A large yarding, numbering • 265 head of fair quality. At the commencement of the sale, prices were on a par with late rates,- but towards the end prices advanced about 10s per head. Prime ox beef was worth up to 24s per 1001 b, and cow beef was down to 16s. Prime bullocks realised £lo to £ll 17s 6d, medium £8 to £9 10s, lighter kinds from £6 10s upwards. Prime heifers realised from £7 5s to £8 ss. medium £6 to £7, light and aged from £4 10s upwards. Sheep.—A good yarding, numbering 2790 head. There was a decided improvement in quality as compared with last week’s offering. A good demand existed for all classes, and values advanced from Is to 2s per head above last week’s rates. Prime wether mutton was worth round about 4d per lb, and ewe mutton in the Vicinity of 3%d. Extra prime heavyweight wethers realised from 28s to 30s 6d, prime 24s to 275, medium 19s to 235, lighter Kinds from 16s Gd upwards. Prime ewes realised from 18s to 20s> 3d, medium 15s to 17s, light and aged from Ils upwards. Lambs.—A large yarding, numbering 1323 head of good quality. The offering met with a good demand at improved rates to the extent of about Is per head. Prime lamb was worth about 7d per lb. The prices ranged from 15s to 25s 9d per head. Store Cattle.—A full yarding was offered. The quality generally was an improvement on that of last week’s yarding. There, was a slightly better demand and improved prices for half-fat cows, but the market for backward steers was very slack. A line of good forward steers showing breeding, attracted attention, and these realised up to £5 15s per Pigs.—A small yarding were offered, which Was disposed of under keen competition.. Prices were a shade firmer than those which ruled at last' week's sales. Best baconers realised from 6%d to 7’4d per lb, and porkers from to 8d per lb. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. GOOD SALE FOR MUTTON AND Christchurch, March 22. At the Addington market to-day store sheep again provided an overflow yarding, the entry being the biggest of the year. Fat cattle were again in over supply, the entry being a record for this season. Fat lambs were sent forward in average numbers, and fat sheep exceeded the normal entry. Except for beef, there was a good sale. Store Sheep.—A big yarding, which included drafts of sheep from Marlborough, the Chathams, and elsewhere. There was a spirited sale for all classes, particularly lambs and ewes, a good clearance being effected. Forward rape lambs made 15s 3d to 17s 7d, good 13s to 14s 9d, medium 10s 3d to 12s Gd. small 8s to lOd, culls 5s to 7s 9d. Good four and six-tooth ewes made 18s 9,d ro 21s, ordinary 16s 6d to 18s Gd, low-qbndi-tioned and inferior Ils Gd to 14s. Good halfbred eight-tooth ewes made 19s to 20s lOd, good halfbred two-tooth ewes 22s Gd to 255, fair crossbreds 18s to 19s 6d, inferior 12s to 14s Gd, fairly good four and five-year ewes 13s Gd to 17s Gd, rape ewes 7s to (is 6d, culls 3s 6d to 6s Gd. Forward four and six-tooth wethers made 18s, four and sixtieth w«th«» 14s ta 15a 4d, inferior and

low-conditioned ]2s to. 13s, forward two-tootU wethers 16s, ordinary Ils to 13s. Fat Lambs.—42so were penned, the bulk of them being finished. A sharp rise was recorded on last week of about 2s per head and over. All values were from 7%d to 7%d per lb. Extra prime lambs made 25s to 30s 3d, prime 21s 9d to 24s Gd, medium 18s 9d to 21s, light and inferior 16s to 18s 6d. Fat Sheep.—The market was little changed from last week, heavy ewes being a shade better. Freezers bought freely up to a limit. Extra prime wethers made 24s to 27s 3d, prime 20s to 235, medium 18s to 19s 9d, light 16s to 17s 9d. Extra prime ewes made 21s 3d, prime 13s 6d to 19s 3d, medium 13s Gd to 16s 3d, inferior Us to 13s 3d.

Fat Cattle.—An over supply, the yarding numbering 445 head, which included some good station drafts. Values slipped back hy 20s to 30s per head. Extra prime steers made £l6, prime £9 10s to £l4, medium £7 5s to £9 ss, light steers £5 Jis Gd to £7. Extra prime heifers made to £9 12s Gd, prime £5 5s to £B, ordinary £3 5s to £5 2s 6d. Prime cows £5 to £7 ss, ordinary £2 15s to £4 15s. Vealers.—Everything sold well at an advance on late rates. Runners made £6, good vealers £3 15s to £4 10s, medium £2 to £2 10s, small calves 5s upwards. Store Cattle.—A poor demand, with frequent passings. Two-year-old steers made £3 10 £3 10s, yearlings £1 10s to £2, eighteen-month-old heifers £2 109, yearlings £1 16s to £2, medium cows £2 Is. Dairy Cattle. —Good second and third culvers, close to calving £9 to £l5; ordinary £5 10a to £8 10s, good first caJvers, close to calving £7 to £lO 10s, backward springers £3 10s to £6 10s, aged and inferior cows 15s to £2 10s. Fat Pigs.—Porkers being in over supply easier. Choppers made £2 15s to £5, light baconers £3 5s to £4, heavy £4 5s to £4 15s, extra heavy £5 6s (average price per lb 6%d to 7d), light porkers 40s to 455, heavy 50s to 55s (average price per lb, 7%d to 8d).
