FACTORIES ADVISED TO MAKE BUTTER. STOCKS AND SPACE ALLOTMENTS. Under date March 11, Mr. Ellison cabled from London to the National Dairy Association: “Believe from now on butter best proposition.” And again under date March 17: “Advise factories make butter.” Butter prices have advanced rapidly during past week, and latest advice gives the price in London as 150 s, with the market firm; Is 2Jd f.o.b. v ocean steamer has been freely offered. Latest reports state that the cheese market is firm, with white at 84s and colored 965. The advance in butter is difficult to understand unless it is due to the final disposal of stocks of butter purchased by merchants from the. Imperial Government, Referring to shipments, Mr. T. C. Brash, secretary of the Dairy Association, states: The delay in shipments has been unfortunate, especially as related to cheese, and every effort has zbeen made to secure increased space allotments. Allotments—Port Adelaide, Athenic, Somerset, Leitrim, Durham, Remuera, Dorset, Cornwall, 76,250 boxes. i Stocks at Patea at March 11, 9«377 box<es. Allotments —Port Adelaide, Athenic, Somerset, Dorset, 9818 boxes. Stocks at Wanganui at March 11, 7839 boxes. Allotments —Port Adelaide, Athenic. Somerset, Durham, Remuera, 13,500 boxes. CHEESE. Durham, Port Bowen, Pakeha, Corinthic, Remuera, Waimana, Cornwall, 30,300 crates. Stocks at Patea at March 11, 32,938 crates. Allotments—Somerset, Leitrim, Durham. Athenic, Port Bowen, Remuera, 28,725 crates. Stocks at Wanganui at March 11, 1371 crates. Allotments —Somerset, Pakeha, Waimana, 1560 crates. The last of the above-mentioned steamers will not finally saal until the middle of May.
