NEW PLYMOUTH BRANCH. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting Protestant} Political Association, New Plymouth branch, held at the hall of the Baptist School last night. The heavy rain storm at the close of the day seemed to have affected the attendance. Mr. R. C. Hughes, the president, who occupied the chair, welcomed those present and gave a short review ot tke year’s work. The secretary’s report disclosed a satisfactory condition —the number of members for the year just ended being nearly double that of the previous year. The treasurer’s balance-sheet showed that the balance brought forward from the previous year was £l2 odd. Thji balance at the end. of this year was over £7, the difference being accounted for by special expenditure on the library, etc. The election of officers then followed, Mr. J. O. Taylor being elected president, Mr. Peat treasurer, and Mr. Richardson secretary pro tem. The old committee was re-elected. A resolution wns unanimously passed in appreciation of the action taken by the Mayor of Auckland (Mr. Gunson) on the action he took in regard to Bishop Liston’s speech. The proceedings were enlivened by an animated speech by Mr. Taylor, and by some excellent singing, also a pianoforte solo.
