WATERSIDERS’ WAGES.
APPLICATION FOR REDUCTIONS. A dispute has been created between the New Plymouth Watereiders’ Industrial Union of Workers and Newton King, Ltd., by an application by the latter in which a claim is made for a reduction in wages and a modification of working conditions, etc. This matter will oome before the Conciliation Council, a sitting of which has been fixed for the purpose to take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, at the New Plymouth Courthouse. An application has been made by Newton King, Ltd., to have the following joined as parties to the dispute:— The Anchor Shipping Company (Messrs. J. H. Cock and Co., agents), Blackball Shipping Company, C. and D. Line (Collett and Co.), Collett and Co., Kaiapoi Shipping Company, Ltd., N.Z. Shipping Company, Ltd., Federal Steamship Navigation Company (Union Company), the Utrion Steamship Company, Northern Steamship Company, West port Coal Company, Wanganui, the S.S. and A. Company, the U,S.A. Steamship Corporation, Canadian Government Merchant Marine, General Steamship Navigation Corporation of San Francisco, and Lamb’s Line (for all of which Newton King, Ltd., are Agents). The**rates of pay claimed in the application are Is 7d per hour ordinary time and 2s overtime, with a bonus of 3}d per hour unless and until the court shall otherwise order. Additional rates are suggested according to the olMftifloation of special cargoes.
