BISHOP AND LOYALTY.
STRONG FEELING IN AUCKLAND. MAYOR’S ACTION APPROVED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 21. A large audience assembled in the Town Hall to hear an address by Bishop Locke. On the Mayor, Mr. Gunson, rising to introduce the Bishop those present made a remarkable demonstration, rising and cheering him for some minutes. Mr. Gunson said he took this as an impersonal tribute to the attitude he had taken up toward recent seditious statements and as an expression of the support of citizens. No. 81 branch of the Hibernian Society passed a resolution whole-hearted-ly condemning the attacks on Bishop Liston and extending him the warmest appreciation and unbounded and unalterable confidence. FURTHER RESOLUTIONS. Auckland, Last Night. The Hospital Board and Harbor Board carried resolutions approving of the Mayor’s action in regard to Bishop Liston’s speech. The Orange resolution has also been forwarded to Mayor Gunson.
