A SERIOUS FALL.

BY BUILDER’S LABORER. Severe injuries Were sustained oy Charles Burness Andrews, a builder’s laborer, residing at Molesworth Street, New Plymouth, through a fall from a building yesterday afternoon. Andrews was in the employ of Messrs. .Julian and Son, and was engaged in connection with the alterations being carried out at the premises of Whites', Ltd., drapers, Devon Street. Shortly after three o’clock he was working in the front of the building On the second floor, and, apparently as tlie result of a, false step. fell, crashing through the plaster ceiling in front of the entrance door on to the concrete flagging between two show windows. The fall, about twelve feet, was broken by Andrews coming into contact with a wooden box used in connection with the display of goods alongside the window; luckily he missed the plate glass. When picked up he was bleeding profusely from the right ear. Dr. Walker was summoned, and after attending to the injured man ordered his removal to the hospital. Andrews’ injuries were diagnosed as a fractured skull base and -abrasions on the right knee. Late last night he was reported to be in much the same condition as when admitted to hospital.
