SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. Kaponga A and Manaia A met at Manaia on Saturday, and the match resulted in a very easy win for Manaia by 52 runs on the first innings. Kaponga going in scored 103, Abbott 42 and Chadwick 36 being top scorers. Manaia declared at 155 for the loss of three wickets (Maunsell 59, H. Hughes 11, Hobday 10, A. Hughes 30 not out, C. Haynes 40 not out. Eltham and Okaiawa met at Okaiawa. Eltham won the toss, and, the ground and hall being wet. decided to bat. They started badly, but Stewart and Cole made a great stand for the fifth wicket, putting on 66 runs. Marsh and Grenfell assisted, and after several adjournments for showers, the score was carried to 134 for five wickets, when the innings- was declared closed. Penny and Smith got going, and it looked as though Eltbarn’s score would be passed, but Cole, who bowled well throughout, saved his side from defeat, Dundas and Betts being the only other local batsmen to make a stand. Penny scored 39, Smith .34, and Dundas 16 of the total of 116.
