NEW PLYMOUTH GOLF CLUB. The report for the past year state* that the year on the whole was a sneceasful one. The Easter tournament was again an unqualified succeea. The Taranaki Championship was won by Alfred Seifert, of Palmerston. The club champion was T. V. Maekay, junior champion T. C. Thomson, and indy champion Miss Brewster. The membership at the close of the season **» as follows:—Men: Playing 124,» mon-* playing 10, jhniors 5; ladies: playing 61, non-playing 24, juniors 1; total membership 255. During the year the club held a dance* which was keenly enjoyed by the large number who were present. Despite the fact that some of the ladies umdertook a large part of th© catering at their own expense, a small loss was incurred. It is thought that this function ahcmhi be repeated, and in the light of last year’s experience, with very small risk of loss. A large number of members met at the links to say good-bye to Mr. and Mrs. Paton and presented them with a gramophone and some records. The loss of such men as Mr. Paton, who ar© able and willing to devote considerable time to the affairs of the club, is apt to be felt keenly, especially in connection with the Easter tournament, which involves a great deal of work, prior to and during the tournament. It is thought that the club should appoint and pay a special person for this work, for it is important that the high standard of this tournament should be kept

U P- . . 2* The club was honoed by a visit from His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Jellksoe, who with two members of his staff, spent an afternoon at the links. His 'Excellency had previously accepted the office of patron of the club. Mr. C. H. Burgees and Mr. John Paton were elected life members. A coach, McKenzie, was engaged for two months. An endeavor should be made to obtain a coach for this season. aJso. Referring to the baflance-uheet, the subscriptions and entrance fees amounted to £743 la 6d, as against £S24 14s for the preyious year. Debenture interest} amounting to £135 4s 3d, which had accumulated somewhat, was paid. Wages increased by about £6O. The bank overdraft was reduced by £lO2 Ils Id. The financial position of the club is improving steadily, and is actually better than last year by about £3OO. Teams were sent to Hawera, Waverley and Waitara, and were by no means unsuccessful. The Waitara Club paid us a return visit and Stratford Club also visited us. During the year some alterations were made in several of the greels, and a few bunkers added. It is hoped J*** these will improve the course. Further bunkers should be done as opportunity offers. _ . Mr. John Paton very generously donated to the club debentures to the

amount of £5O. Prizes were donated by the following gentlemen: Drs. Leatham, Home and Wade, Messrs. R. W. D. Robertson, C. H Weston, T. P. Anderson, V. Dalgleish, W C. Webster. W. H. Robertshaw, A. Smith, K.T., and J. E. Avery. Thanks are. due to Mr. .lohne, who kindly donated a number of trees, and who,' assisted by Messrs. Harr«wn, Dempsey, Nixon and Allemann, planted: a hedge adjacent to the club house. They also planted about 100 trees of various kinds. Thanks are due to the members who assisted at working bees; also to Messrs. Waters and Dempsey, 'Who remeasured the course which had become expedient, owing to various alterations in the position of greens in recent ' Dr Wade kindly undertook the supervision of the wort on links during the greater part of the season. There was found to be a shortage ot lockers in the men’s room, and estimates were obtained, which were, however, too high to enable the work to be und - taken. This should be one of the first, matters for consideration by thenew committee. However, .he the club house, which has been desirable for some years, has been aecomnThe committee recommends that subscriptions of members and country members be the same as last year.
