VICTORIA v WESTERN AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Perth, March 14. Victoria defeated Western Australia by an innings and 72 runs. SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. Excelsior won the event over Okaiawa at Okaiawa on Saturday by 51 runs. There were some very good scores put up on both sides. Pratt and McPherson (Excelsior) making 52 and 51 respectively, and Whalen and Penny (Okaiawa) making 43 and 30 respectively. The Kaponga tea«n were defeated by the Midlands team, which scored 123 runs against Kaponga’s 103. Nichol, with 27 runs, compiled Midlands’ largest score, while Reading, with 21 runs, proved himself the best bat of the day amongst the Kaponga team. The Maiyaia B team met Technical School at Hawera on Saturday in their final match, and after a very close finish the game resulted in a win for Manaia B by six runs. For Manaia, Mclvor 25, Purser 26. and Young 12 were the top scores, and for School, Wells 17, Church 13, and Griffin 11. For Manaia, Cosgrove took seven wickets for 33 runs, and Griffin, for School, took four wickets for 18 runs.
