GIFT OF HEALING.

ARCHBISHOP’S COMMITTEE. A SERIOUS INQUIRY. London. Jan. 2d. Spiritual healing is a subject which is being inquired into by a committee appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The establishment of this committee resulted from resolutions proposed at the Lambeth Conference in 1920. It has been stated in an authoritative quarter that it is not so much the bishops as the clergy who are slow to move in the direction of a ministry of healing within the Church. Though neither the names of the members of the committee appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury nor the terms of leference have been published, it may be stated that in addition to several medical men, specially qualified by reason of their reputation as psycho-thera-pists, the committee includes Bishop Chandlier, who was formerly Bishop of Bloemfontein, and the Rev. Harold Anson, chairman of the Guild of Health. That organisation, of which the Bishop of Kensington is president, is an interdenominational society designed to promote a deeper interest in' the relation between the spiritual life and bodily health, and has taken a prominent part, in the course of its 15 years’ existence, in the furtherance o-f that subject. Its objects are the study of the influence of spiritual upon physical well-being; the exercise of healing by spiritual means in complete loyalty to scientific principles and methods: united prayer for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in all efforts to heal the sick; and the cultivation. through spiritual means, of both individual and corporate health.
