NO AIRSHIP SERVICE.
SHIPS TO BE DISPOSED OF. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received March 9, 9.30 p.m. London, March 8. The Air Minister (Mr. F. E. Guest), replying to a question in the House of Commons, said it was not proposed to retain any of the Air Ministry’s five airships, in view of the failure to obtain adequate support from the Dominions for an Empire airship service. The Ministry had decided to hand over the airships to the Disposal Board for sale, but he hoped to be able to retain a portion of the skilled personnel. The Council of the British Empire League has passed a resolution declaring that the establishment of an Imperial airship service is most important in the interests of the Empire, and urging the Government to provide the financial guarantees necessary to establish a service at the earliest on a commercial basis, and demanding that the airship personnel and plant be not scattered prior to June 1, as Mr. Guest undertook at the recent air conference.
