A Timaru message reports the death of Mr. John Withell, a well-known meat exporter and »heep breeder. It has been current rumor throughout this district that Mr. H. D. Forsyth would probably be a candidate for the Egmont seat. Mr. Forsyth has informed his friends that there is no foundation for the rumor.—Argus.
Mr. R. Payne, who is leaving New Plymouth to manage the drapery business of Mr. C. C. Ward at Eltham, was farewelled at a gathering of members of the past and present committees of the East End Reserve. The function took the form of a social evening at the East End pavilion on Wednesday.
Mr. Frank Hutchens, the well-known New Zealand pianist, left England in January by the Carmania to join the Sonoma for Sydney, with the intention of resuming his work at the conservatorium at the beginning of March. Soon after his arrival he will give a seriea of concerts with Josha Seidel, an eminent artist and violinist. Some 50 concerts will be given, and New Zealand will be included in the itinerary.
