AMERICAN SENATE

MR. W. J. BRYAN'S ACTIVITIES. | MAY LEAD THE DEMOCRATS. By Telegraph.—-Press Assn.—Copyright. Received March 7, 9.5 p.m. Washington, March 6. Senator William Jennings Bryan issued a statement to-day which is considered by some political leaders as an attempt to assume leadership of the Democratic Party. Senator Bryan declared his confidence that the Democrats would win a majority in the House of Representatives if they would attack the Republicans weak economic policies, as exemplified in the revenue laws defects. Senator Bryan advised Democratic Senators to accept the Arms Conference treaties, because they were actually a creation of the Democratic Party. The Senate judiciary sub-committee decided that Senator Smoot and Representative Burton are ineligible to sit on the Foreign Debt Refunding Commission because the law prohibits Congressmen from accepting other Federal offices. This may delay the refunding. The Stenate adopted without debate Senator Bor all’s resolution asking that the Senate be informed whether the Pacific Treaty abrogates the Ijansing-Ishi agreement regarding Japanese status in the Orient.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
