LIFE-SAVING.
NEW PLYMOUTH LADIES’ CLUB. The New Plymouth Ladies’ Life-Saving Club held a most successful meeting at the Municipal Baths on Saturday afternoon. The club is evidently becoming very popular amongst women and girls interested in swimming, and the Saturday afternoon club hour is becoming quite an institution. The results of the events are as under: Life-saving; second method of release and rescue; judged on points.—R. Aitken 1, M. Ross 2. Seven competitors. Breast-stroke: one length; on points.—L. Bell 1, A. Smalley 2. Seventeen competitors. Swimming under water.—S. North 1, R. Aitken 2. Five competitors. Blindfold race.—T. Stone 1, R. Aitken 2. Fifteen competitors. Novice Handicap.—M. . Mathieson 1, T. Scott 2. Six competitors. Object Diving.—S. North 1, A. Smalley 2. Five competitors. On Saturday morning, despite the early hour (5.30 a.m.), quite a good audience of club members assembled at the baths to see the Award of Merit examination, Miss M. Mather, the club’s energetic secretary, being the candidate. The examiners awarded her a pass with 83 points—quite a meritorious performance. The New Plymouth Ladies Life-saving Club wish to gratefully acknowledge further donations as follows: Miss Mclntosh (Girls’ High School), £1 Is; Miss Clarke (Girls’ High School), 10s 6d; Mr. T. C. List, 10s 6d; Dr. Milroy, 10s; Dr. Fookes, 10s; Messrs. Weston and Billing, 10s 6d; Newton King, Ltd., 10s 6d; Mr. W. R. Brown, ss; Mr. C. H. Wyatt, 2s 6d; Mr. R. A. Large, 2s 6d; Mr. Little, 2s 6d.
