WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) - March 6. The Taranaki Drapers’ Association held one of their periodical executive meetings in Waitara last week. Mi. ! Lewers, of Stratford, presided, and ' about a dozen other members were pre- ■ sent. The visitors were the guests of ’ the local drapers at luncheon. ! The Soldiers’ and Civilians’ Club billiard tournament has created much interest during the last few weeks. The final was played the other evening between Messrs. Ken George and J. Grant, resulting in a win for Mr. George. Mr. Parry (president) presented the prizes at-rhe conclusion, and a vote of thanks was passed to the handicapper (Mr. D. George). To preserve interest in the club the officials are promoting a championship open to all, a prize of £3 beino offered. During March a prize of £1 is being given for the man that makes the highest break. Owing to the heavy rains experienced last, week the Waitara river was in high flood on Friday, and a. quantity of timber from the “way backs” was brought down. The beach has had many visitors since to gather in cheap firewood. Mr. H. Ashworth, of Waitara, has received an appointment as Methodist home missionary for the Ohura district, and contemplates leaving Waitara shortly to take up his new position. The'friends of Mr. Dougall. of Messrs. Borthwick’s engineering staff, regret to learn of his severe illness. Mr. Dougall is at present in the New Plymouth Hospital- \
