SWIMMING.

BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP. SOME CLOSE FINISHES. The weather was unkind for the championship events in connection with the New Plymouth Boys’ High School swimming sports, held at the Municipal Baths on Saturdaj’ night, though fortunately the rain held off. Some exceptionally keen tussles for supremacy were witnessed, and the judges had a difficult task in placing the different competitors who, in many events, finished practically in line . The officials were the same as those at the sports on Friday, with the addition of Mr. A. R. Standist, who acted as one of the judges. * The championships resulted as follows, points being allocated on the 5,3, 1 principle : Senior.—-Foden (17 points) 1, Taylor (9) 2, Rickard (8) 3. Junior.—Revell (8 points) 1, Ogle and Hawkins (5) equal 2. Under 14.—Sladden (13 points) 1, Fletcher (11) 2, Robb (3) 3. Detailed results:— UNDER 14 CHAMPIONSHIP. 25 Yards.—F. The three placed men swam in line practically all the way, with Collins, the other starter, about a yard behind. Touches only separated the first three to finish. 200 Yards.—Taylor 1, Foden 2. Time, 2min. 55 3-ssec. The only starters but the race was full of Interest. The pair were together most of the distance, but Taylor got a slight lead in the sixth and final length and won by a yard. OTHER EVENTS. Long Plunge (final) .—Brown (Ift.) 39ft. 9in. 1, Foden (scr.) 39ft. 51n. 2. Awkward Entry.—J. Palmer 1, Waugh ?, Pope 3. Open Dive (final). —'Petty 1, Taylor 2, Penman 3. All the placed men gave a, good exhibition. Final Ribbon Dive.—Brown 1, Collins 2, Hawkins and Foden dead heat 3. Old Boys’ Race (33 1-3 yards).—Coleman and Kyngdon dead heat 1, Morrison 3. Time, 20 2-ssec. Relay Race (33 1-3 yards each man).— School (Foden. Rickard, Taylor, Collins) v. Old Boys (McHardy, Morrison, Kyngdon. Sykes). This race created great excitement. School held a slight lead 1 in the early stages, but in the last lap Old Boys made up the leeway and the last men touched together, a dead heat therefore being awarded.
