INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) , March 3. Inglewood is justly proud of the thoroughness of the weather, in consequence of which the resuscitation of that notable annual fixture of years gone by, the Inglewood sports meeting, was to have taken place on Thursday. From early morn to dewy eve (very dewy at that) there was no attempt at apology for the quality of the weather, nor, fortunately, on that account, any hesitation on the part of those at the head of affairs in Inglewood in pronouncing the verdict “postponed.” So prompt, indeed, was the action determined on by those in authority here that telephone communication was opened up with intending visitors—competitors, bandsmen and others —early enough in the day to prevent them going to the trouble or expense of even starting on the intended journey here, thanks to the forethought of Mr. Eagar, of the Coffee Palace, one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the club. But though the sports were put off for a week the euchre party and dance in the Town Hall did not fail to eventuate, and a success there was scored. In the euchre party good sport was crowned by the ladies’ prize being allotted to Mrs. Burnip and the gentleman’s to Mr. Spurdie junr. For the dance Mr. Foster ably filled the post of AI.C., while music was supplied by Miss Curd’s orchestra.
