A STUD SALE.
RECORD PRICE FOR BULL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The sale of surplus stock of Mr. W. D. Hunt’s Bainfield stud to-day was .attended by buyers from all parts of the Dominion, besides two from Victoria. Ten Romney rams were offered and were sold, prices ranging from 10 to 35 guineas and totalling 152 guineas. Flock rams realised 3J guineas to 7 guineas. There was keen competition for Friesian cattle, Auckland breeders being thfe highest bidders. Eleven heifers were offered, and realised prices ranging from 45 to 170 guineas, the latter price being paid by Mr. L. Langsford, Papatoetoe, for Bainfield Topsy 11th. The total for heifers was 1100 guineas, or an average of 100 guineas each, the second highest for the Dominion. Twenty-one bulls were sold for a total of 1456 guineas, averaging 63 1-3 guineas. The sensation of the sale was the spirited contest for the six-months bull calf Bainfield Netherland King Pontiac, by Rosevale King Sylvia from Westmere Netherland Princess. Bidding started at 200 guineas, and the bull was finally knocked down to the Pine Land Company, Auckland, for the record price of 510 guineas. The total realisation was £3935.
