A MINING AWARD. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Melbourne, Feb. 28. Mr. Justice Powers refused an application by. the Wallaroo Moonta Mining Company to reduce the award rates in some places by 10s weekly, and added that the employees had already made an extraordinarily fair offer. No doubt they would further meet the employers if it was necessary for carrying on the mines. THE QUEENSLAND LOAN. Brisbane, Feb. 28. Mr. Theodore stated he had arranged to transfer the proceeds of the second American loan to London to replenish the funds there; INDUSTRIAL UNIONISM. Sydney, Feb. 28. The conference of Australian workers, waterside workers, and coal miners has concluded. The unions decided to become departments under the new scheme of organisation which will be constructed on industrial lines as opposed to the present system of craft unionism. The membership at the start will number 200,000 ar t will be augmented later as other unions join. THE CHURCH AND POLITICS. Sydney, Feb. 28. Speaking at the Methodist Conference Mr. Hughes urged the churches to enter the arena of politics. The world to-day was very sick. The workers were looking for leadership, and none were more fitted than the church to guide them. MR. HUGHES BUSY.
