Mr. A. Smith, of New Plymouth, is at Trentham Military Hospital undergoing treatment. Miss E. Barry, supervisor of the Oamaru telephone exchange, has been appointed to a similar position at Eltham.

The Rev. J. G. S. Bartlett has decided to give up his present position as vicar of Featherston and remove to the Wanganui district.

Rev. M. Mullineaux, M.C., spent yesterday morning visiting the chief places of interest in New Plymouth, and proceeded to Hawera in the afternoon.

Mr. F. R, Climie, of Hastings, is the Wairarapa Hydro-electric Board’s first choice for the position of engineer, at a salary of £lOOO per year. The second choice is a resident of Tasmania.

Mr. A. D. McLeod, M.P., intends at the next meeting of the Featherston County Council, to tender his resignation, after 25 years’ continuous service, in the course of which he was for many years chairman. News was received in Wellington on Monday of the death of Mr. Robert Breen, of Dunedin. Mr. Breen was one of the pioneers of the Labor movement in New Zealand.

The distribution of the portfolios held by Sir Francis Bell, who is about to pay a visit to Britain, has been virtually completed. The Hon. G. J. Anderson has become Minister of Marine. The Hon. E. P. Lee will act as At-torney-General. The Hon. Sir Heaton Rhodes has taken over the office of Commissioner of State Forests. _
