THE METHODIST CHURCH.

BUSINESS AT CONFERENCE. FIRST DRAFT OF STATIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Aasoeistion. Auckland, Last Night. The Methodist Conference was continued to-day. The proposal to erect « theological college was referred to a special committeft, which is to consider the question of the tenure of a site. The Rev. J. H. Simmonds, principal of Wesley Training College, reported on the arrangements for the removal of the college to Paerata, which is expected to be accomplished this year. It is expected to open the new school with 40 boys—native and European—and in a few years to accommodate 80. In view of the financial position it would be necessary to charge fees for tuition if the college is to pay its way. The Rev. J. H. Simmonds was re-appointed for two years. The conference was addressed by Sister Maud Coleman, of the Wesley Deaconesses* Institution, England, emphasising the wide scope of women’s work in large cities. The president stated that as the best young men were needed for the ministry, so the beet young women were required for deaconesses. It was resolved that ministers be requested to bring the claims of desconesses’ work before the young women of the church. The conference decided to tender, through the Governor-General, hearty congratulations to Princess Mary on the occasion of her marriage. On passing the resolution the conference sang a verse of the National Anthem. Reports of orphanages were received. Owing to the establishment of an orphanage at Masterton during the year the North Island orphanage will now be known as the Mount Albert Orphanage. Additional accommodation has been obtained at Mt. Albert by the purchase of a large house adjoining the orphanage, giving room for 25 inmates. The Masterton children's home has been erected during the year, at a cost of £9750, and it is one of the finest in the Dominion. The Rev. Grainger Hargreaves, of England, described it as magnificent in situation and up-to-date in every way, and a place of which the chureh can well be proud. Eighty-five children are being cared for in the three ozphanoges and extensions in progress and contemplated will provide for about 30 more. The first draft of stations was adopted.
