With three days gone the executive of die rifle championship meeting can congratulate themselves on having broken the back of the fixture. The weather in the early morning was dull, with passing showers; inter It brightened up, but even thia was not altogether satisfactory, as the brightness was patdiy, high lights and deep shadows alternating with almost uncanny rapidity. The Canterbury match was decided before lunch. This was a fifteen shot struggle at CM yards and extra shots involved coosideraMe strain on the men. Out of the fight came NeHaon and Roots, eaeh of whom only dropped one notat. Scholes, a tyro from Upper Hutt, got on a creditable 72, which counted back to advantage over similar totals made by Atkinson and H. C. Loveday. On the completion of the Canterbury match the midfield aggregate winner was found tn A. H. Guy (Kaponga), wtio had made B®6 at all tte ranges fired to date, the pasafbie for which was 325. He took a cash prize and the Carbine Cup. The Buchanan challenge shield and gold medal also fteil to Guy, whose 163 out of a possible 175 at the three If yards shoots was the best on the range, it was also possible to see who were leading in the champion teams' match for teams of five men. Including the scores in all matches of the belt series. Four have been flred to date, the leading teams being Christchurch No. 1 1460. Ryles. Bryan and Hunt, each 300. Guy takes the Buchanan challenge cuy and gold medal for the highest aggregate—l 63 out of a possible 175 at con yards.
